Skilled labour is at the heart of our work

The shortage of skilled labour poses major challenges for companies - but temporary work in particular offers opportunities here. In this interview, Steven Bormann, Branch Manager at ZAG, explains why skilled labour is so important, what advantages temporary work offers and how ZAG manages to retain employees in the long term.

The shortage of skilled labour has been an ongoing issue for years - also in the temporary employment sector. We have worked with Steven Bormann, Branch Manager at ZAGThe company spoke to us about the current situation, the opportunities for companies and the benefits for employees.

"We are all aware of the acute shortage of skilled labour on a daily basis. For us, this is also a great opportunity to position ourselves clearly in the skilled labour market," explains Steven Bormann, Branch Manager at ZAG.

The demand for qualified specialists has always been high. In recent years, however, it has increased significantly once again. The main reason for this is demographic change: many older skilled workers are retiring, while some of the younger generation no longer choose the traditional training route, preferring instead to start their careers straight away.

Two pillars for success - fair pay and appreciation

How does ZAG succeed in attracting and retaining skilled labour in the long term?
"Work must be worthwhile!" emphasises Bormann. Fair pay is the basis - but valuing employees is just as important.
"We have to value our employees, because that's the only way to keep them motivated in the long term."
In this way, ZAG attaches great importance to ensuring that employees feel seen and that their work is recognised

Particularly affected sectors

The shortage of skilled labour does not affect all sectors equally. It is particularly noticeable in the metal and electrical industry and in the care sector.
"This is where companies need reliable support - and that's exactly where we can help," says Bormann.

Why skilled workers value temporary work

Temporary work is an attractive option for many skilled workers. "Our employees are not just a number," explains Bormann. They benefit from fair pay, uncomplicated processes and quick solutions.
For example, they can take a day off at short notice or change an assignment if something doesn't fit. "We organise the desired assignment for our employees - if an assignment is not suitable, we look for an alternative."

Advantages compared to direct employment

Many skilled workers find access to companies through ZAG that would otherwise be difficult for them to reach. "It often fails due to long application processes or other hurdles. With us, it's quick and uncomplicated: one conversation at the office and you're ready to go."
Another advantage: security.
"There are no compulsory redundancies with us. Especially in economically challenging times, this is a decisive advantage for many people."

An appeal to companies

Finally, Steven Bormann gives clear advice to companies struggling with a shortage of skilled labour:
"Get in touch with us. Together with my team on site, we will ensure that you get the best personnel for your requirements."

Conclusion: Focus on skilled labour

The interview with Steven Bormann makes it clear: skilled workers are the backbone of the economy - and temporary work offers them real opportunities. With fair pay, genuine appreciation and customised solutions, ZAG creates the basis for successful collaboration - to the benefit of employees and companies alike.
