TuS Vinnhorst: Promoting young talent in gymnastics

We spoke to Mika Säfken, captain, former national gymnast and media interface for the club, about the German Gymnastics League, promoting young talent and the role of Sponsors like ZAG.

Gymnastics at TuS Vinnhorst: tradition and success
„Gymnastics is an absolutely traditional sport and it's impossible to imagine TuS Vinnhorst without it,“ says Säfken. The club's national gymnastics league department has developed impressively in recent years - from the 3rd league to two German championship titles. Proof that continuity, training and teamwork are bearing fruit.

Team performance despite individual sport
Although gymnastics is often perceived as an individual sport, Säfken emphasises the central importance of the team: „It's not just about the one minute on the apparatus in competition. Behind it are years of training, coaching, physiotherapy, mental support, supporters and training colleagues. If you are a good team player in this environment, you can reap huge benefits.“

Values that have an impact beyond the hall
Gymnastics conveys values such as structure, discipline, character and the desire to always give your all. „These values can be transferred perfectly to other areas of life - be it at work or in the private sphere,“ explains Säfken.

Young talent as the key to the future
Young talent is particularly important to TuS. Children as young as four or five are regularly in the hall. Säfken emphasises: „It is precisely at this stage that the foundations are laid for a performance-oriented career later on. This requires committed coaches and strong support.“

Success comes to those who recognise, promote and make targeted use of individual strengths. This is the only way for teams - whether in sport or at work - to achieve top performance.

Looking ahead
Gymnastics at TuS Vinnhorst is currently undergoing an exciting transformation. The work with young talent is having an impact: the second national league team consists mainly of the club's own athletes, who are given the chance to prove themselves directly at national league level. Some have already made it all the way to the 1st Bundesliga - proof of the club's sustainable structure and future-orientated concept.
