Our Big Duck is at this year’s NKR Charity Duck Race She’ll be there – and she’s got a very special message to share: It connects people and AI.

With the Race number 72 Our duck takes to the stage with an extraordinary look: half human, half AI. In doing so, it addresses an issue that is also a major focus for ZAG: how can we harness the opportunities offered by new technologies whilst preserving what makes us human?

For us, the answer is: The future is not about humans or AI – it’s about humans and AI.

Technology as a support – people remain at the centre

Artificial intelligence is transforming the world of work and opening up new opportunities. Processes can be made more efficient, information can be processed more quickly, and people can be supported in carrying out many tasks.

Yet, despite all the technological progress, one thing remains crucial: It’s the people who make the difference. Creativity, empathy, trust, experience and personal relationships are irreplaceable. It is precisely this human-centred approach that has characterised ZAG for more than 40 years and is reflected in our mission statement „People & Perspectives“ against.

ZAG CEO Dr Eckart Gaude also emphasises in an interview with Business Forum, that technological change should not result in people being pushed out of the spotlight. Rather, AI offers the opportunity to deploy human labour in a more targeted manner and to create new opportunities.

Shaping AI responsibly

Increasing digitalisation is bringing about major changes. That is precisely why it is important to take a thoughtful approach to the use of AI and to establish clear guidelines. Technology should support people – not replace them.

Our Big Duck also embodies this philosophy: it represents the interplay between innovation and humanity. After all, progress is not driven by technology alone, but by people who use technology wisely.

Working together for a good cause

Until 29 July 2026 you can see our Big Duck in the GALERIA shop window in Hanover marvel at. On the 1 August 2026 she goes to the big one NKR Charity Duck Race on Lake Maschsee to the starting line.

Through this race, the North German Bone Marrow and Stem Cell Donor Register (NKR) An important task: to give people with blood cancer hope for a new life. The NKR registers stem cell donors and helps to find suitable donors for patients.
